中評社華盛頓8月21日電（記者 余東暉）薩爾瓦多與台灣斷交，轉向北京，美國官方表達失望，並稱正在評估美國與薩爾瓦多的關係。
在薩爾瓦多轉向北京一整天之後，美國國務院發言人21日晚間以背景說明的方式，向中評社發來聲明說：“我們注意到台灣和薩爾瓦多斷交。盡管我們承認每個國家都有決定其外交關系的主權，但我們對這一決定深感失望。在這一決定之後，我們正在評估我們同薩爾瓦多的關系。”（We are aware of the break in diplomatic ties between Taiwan and El Salvador. Although we recognize the sovereign right of every country to determine its diplomatic relations, we are deeply disappointed by this decision.We are reviewing our relationship with El Salvador following this decision.）
